"I saw the need for a structured pilates teacher training program. Until then, most people, including myself, were trained as apprentices, but the growing demand for pilates teachers made that impractical."

Rael Isacowitz, M.A, NCPT

Pilates Educator, Practitioner, and Innovator, Author, Founder & Director of BASI Pilates.

I knew that without proper Pilates teacher training programs we would not maintain the integrity of the Pilates Method.
At the Wingate Institute of Physical Education in Israel I had taught potential teachers and done curriculum and program development. I had danced for many years and completed my Master’s Degree in Dance Studies (1986). I was also an athlete and practiced yoga since my early teens.
Given my experience in Pilates, my teaching credentials, and requests from people to train them, I channelled my passion for Pilates into creating my first Pilates teacher training course. BASI Pilates was born. It is now an industry leader in Pilates teacher training.

At BASI Pilates, we honor Pilates history and the legacy handed down by Joseph Pilates by providing our students with a solid foundation in all aspects of the Pilates Method. As such, the entire original repertoire is addressed and all equipment is studied. We also combine respect for history and tradition with openness to scientific and technological advances. This openness has produced the BASI Block System, the F2 System, BASI Interactive, and many other innovations that organically supplement the pioneering work of Joseph Pilates.
BASI stands for excellence and professionalism. Adhering to these concepts, we continue the work of Joseph Pilates and ensure the growth and success of our students.

2005 was the year I met Rael Isacowitz! The place was BASI Headquarters in Costa Mesa, California.

I was looking for a stellar Pilates Academy to offer comprehensive high caliber Pilates
Education at our NYSY Studio in Athens.

When I met Rael our connection was instant. He had a broad smile, full of warmth, and I was enthusiastic about bringing his BASI Pilates educational programs to Greece. The idea was fairly new. BASI did not have other Licensees or Franchise partners outside of South Africa, the country Rael was raised and lived in until he moved to California. Rael and I both valued great education, community, and ethics.

We shook hands. We had a good feeling about the future, but we had no idea of the
success and confirmation the future would bring. BASI is now in over 44 countries. In Japan alone today there are over 120 BASI Pilates Studios. In China twice as many. In Korean and all over Europe and Asia BASI is revered.

It has been almost 20 years, and I cannot hide my gratitude for the history we have build together, with Rael, his excellent team of teachers and administrators and our own Greek team. Rael has proven to be not just a master Pilates teacher but one of the most ethical, fair, and honest people I know. To many of us he is a mentor, a teacher, a friend, and a great role model for our lives in the arena of Pilates and beyond.

We have had the opportunity to nurture our own community here in Greece. We now have our own team of exceptional teachers, and organizers not just in Athens, but in Thessaloniki with Alexandra Rossopoulou and soon in the South, at Zen Rocks an International Retreat Center. BASI is flying high, and so are we.

Our BASI programs give us the opportunity to touch people in a most positive way. To see the growth and the development of our dear students is the most rewarding gift. We are all working whole heartedly and we support each other to give our very best effort and to show our very self. The world becomes a better place when things work this way.

With great gratitude for our BASI Pilates community, I will repeat what Rael vehemently expresses: We are BASI Family. We are BASI strong!

Welcome to our BASI circle, a community for excellence! And Joy!
